Reston Youth Triathlon

Reston Youth Triathlon Race Description

Celebrate our 10th Anniversary with the

Be AMYazing! 2020 Virtual Duathlon

The Be AMYazing! Reston Youth Triathlon was inspired by Amy Boyle and her “never give up” attitude, and that is why we have decided to proceed with the triathlon this year but with a twist. While we won’t be able to hold the triathlon in person this year, like many things these days, we will be doing it virtually with the Be AMYazing! 2020 Virtual Duathlon.

What does a Virtual Race mean?

Instead of a triathlon we will be holding a virtual duathlon where racers will complete a run-bike-run. Parents will determine where their children will complete the race and set-up the course according to the distances we set forth. Racers will choose their own day and time to complete the race, but it must be completed sometime between May 10th and 17th and then report your times to the Facebook Event page. We will provide a race shirt, medal, and 10th anniversary commemorative headband to registered racers that will be distributed at a later party date.

Our virtual race offers:

  • Children and families with a specific health/athletic goal

  • A physical focus to compliment the on-line school education (PE class)

  • Something else to do in April!

  • The ability to continue our support to the Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation

What will it look like?

  • Each age group will be assigned specific lengths for the run and bike. The participants will create their own course, train throughout the month of April, and then complete the race during the week of May 10-17th.

  • Through social media and newsletter RYT will post training tips, weekly goals, and challenges.

  • Families will post pictures of their training and progress on our social media or tag our social media to be entered into the weekly raffle drawings.

We will provide:

  • A specific Facebook Event; https://www.facebook.com/events/622639115249559/

  • A Design-Your-Own Race Bib

  • Information on social media (Facebook, Instagram and TikTok) and in our newsletter on weekly challenges and training goals.

  • Weekly raffle drawings to promote social media involvement

New features:

  • New 15 to 18 year-old age group

  • New Family Relay Team category that is open to any age

  • Registration fee will be $40 (same as early bird) for individuals and $60 for Family Relay Team.

Course Information:

The duathlon course segments are detailed below. Parents will determine where the racers will complete the course. For each of the 3 segments, Run-Bike-Run, the racer can decide if they want to complete the distance or the time duration.

There are two new categories for the virtual duathlon:

1)    16 to 18 years-old

2)    Family Team Relay - for any age and either a 2-person or 3-person team. The team members decide who will complete which segment(s). This is for new registrations only. Please provide a team captain name and the name of the additional team members.

Family Team Relay example; a family of 2 children and one parent. One child is 7 and the other is 11. They decide the 7-year old will do the first run, the 11-year old will bike, and the parent will complete the last run. Their distances would be 0.25 mile run, 3 mile bike, and 2.4 mile run.
